Beauty in a Box

Essence Beauty BoxEssence Beauty Box Review

Do you feel like you’re always wearing the same lip color every day? Is your hair cream not working like it used to do? Are you always envious of your favorite celeb or blogger because they’re ‘in the know’ about the latest beauty tips and tricks? If you answered yes to any of these questions, the Essence Beauty Box may be the perfect thing for you.

Essence Beauty Box is a new subscription service by the makers of Essence Magazine. The cool thing about this subscription box that makes it different from others on the market is that it’s specifically designed for women of color. Every piece was curated to match the rich array of skin tones we possess. Typically, there are at least five items per box, with at least one belonging to a Black owned business (talk about #winning).

The April beauty box, themed Fresh Start, features six items that combine skincare, hair and beauty staples.

  • Resist Vitamin C Spot Treatment – Paula’s Choice
  • Evercolor Shadow Stick – Mally Beauty
  • Cocoa Butter Stick – Palmer’s
  • Seal and Shine – Jane Carter Solution
  • Coconut Curls – Earth’s Nature
  • Sébium H2O – Bioderma

My favorite item this month has been the shadow stick. Admittedly, I’m still learning how to wear eye shadow, so the stick has truly been a godsend.

How it Works

My opinion

This beauty box is perfect for any woman who wants to stay on trend with the latest beauty finds. I love it because it allows me to try out a variety of products without breaking the bank. I always find myself buying things that I only use once. This subscription box takes the guesswork out of looking flawless—all while maintaining an affordable price.

  1. I remember when these were launched at just the time I was looking for a gift for my daughter who had complained that the beauty boxes were mostly for pale people. When I saw these, it was the right time, the right gift, but I was put waaay off by the price. I wrote that as badly as I wanted to gift my daughter with one of these, the price was ridiculously high. Now, I see that the experiment has crashed in flames and for me, the price was the deal breaker. I am now on the site and see the reduced prices and think that if only you had been more reasonable with the prices of these boxes in the first place, I would have been a subscriber to two of these boxes–one for my daughter and one for myself. As it is, I am now taking advantage of the sale prices .. we err when we are unreasonable with what folk would like to have..the old adage “be kool” still applies. Love these fire sale prices!
