Orange is the New Black (#OITNB)

Happy New Year! The holiday season has officially ended and now it’s time to ramp up the fashion. I know we’re all still making our New Year’s resolutions, so here’s one to add to the list – NO MORE BLACK (outfits, of course…lol). Yes, you heard me right. We have to break out of the mundane of our dreary all black wardrobes and add a pop of color. That’s why this week’s topic is entitled, “Orange is the New Black.”

I don’t know about you, but my fall and winter wardrobe used to consist of only black and brown. Black pants, black skirts and black shoes. How boring is that?!? Research has proven that wearing bright colors positively impacts your mood. According to the Science of People, “Orange is a color of stimulation and enthusiasm. Orange is a nice mix of red’s passion and yellow’s joy. Research has found that orange increases oxygen supply to the brain, produces an energizing effect, and stimulates brain activity.”

If you’re still nervous about easing into color, check out my top three reasons why ‘Orange is the New Black.’ Comment below with your thoughts on spicing up your wardrobe with a bit of color.

  1. Variety: Orange comes in a variety of shades from bright coral to spicy pumpkin
  2. Adaptability: Orange complements virtually every skin tone
  3. Versatility: Orange blends well with other color pallets, making it easy to add as an accent color or main statement piece

Check out my ideas for spicing it up with a little burnt orange. So who’s ready to step out of the shadows with me???

    1. Thanks, girlie! I just love how shades of orange can brighten your mood and give your complexion a rich glow.

P.S. You look amazing in any color! 😉

  1. That is awesome. Yes my wardrobe is mostly black . It’s time for our shopping outing to get some color in wardrobe

  2. Ok…when you mentioned orange, the first color that came to mind was pumpkin orange. I am so not here for that shade; however I am down for darker shades of the hue, like rust. You and I both know that once you go black, you don’t wanna to go back (back to another color other than…that is). However, each year I find myself making futile promises to incorporate more color into my wardrobe. I am going to make it a goal to do so; more of a challenge to my artistic side (that would like to be acknowledged more) and go for more color this year! Thanks for the post Stephanie.

    1. You’re so right, Carla. It’s hard to break away…lol. One idea is to join a style challenge. Style challenges, like the one at instagram.com/wearwhatwhere, force you to find new ways to wear the items in your closet — thus breaking you out of the ‘all black’ look. Now, I personally know that you can rock ANYTHING, so this shouldn’t be difficult for you at all. Give it a try and let me know what happens!
