How to Wear a Blanket Scarf

One of the things I like best about the fall/winter season is layering. With the drastic temperature change between day/night, it’s often important to pack an extra layer or two than can be shed, if needed. And if you have to layer up, you might as well do it in style! Sweaters and cardigans are cool, but when you really want to make a statement, do it with a blanket scarf.

If you’re wondering what a blanket scarf is, let me break it down.

A blanket scarf is an oversized piece of fabric that can be manipulated (via folding) into various wearable clothing items (e.g,. infinity scarf, vest, etc.). You can find these at most clothing retailers in a variety of fabrics and price points. If you’re interested in checking out the one featured in this post, click here. I love it because it’s double sided, which gives me two unique scarves for the price of one — SCORE!!

Now that I’ve covered what a blanket scarf is and where to find it — it’s time to finally discuss…you guessed it…”how to wear a blanket scarf.” Below, you’ll find four simple ideas to get you started.  Leave me a comment about which style is your favorite!

Style Option #1: Infinity Scarf

This look is one of the most popular ways to wear a blanket scarf. To achieve the style, fold the scarf in a rectangle, tie the ends to make an oval. Next, place on the neck and fluff until you reach the desired look.

Style Option #2: Vest

This look is one of my favs because it’s easy to accomplish and helps hide your midsection if you have an extra helping of mac ‘n cheese (it is the holiday season, however…lol). To achieve this style, drape scarf over your neck until it evenly hangs. Secure it in place with a thin belt (like the rope belt pictured above).

Style Option #3: Shoulder Tie

This is a chic look that can elevate a casual look or add a even more sophistication to a classy outfit. The style is achieved by folding the scarf in a rectangle and tying the open ends off the shoulder.

Style Option #4: Poncho/Messy Triangle

I especially like this look because it showcases both sides of the blanket scarf. In this style, the scarf is folded diagonally and then secured behind the neck.
